Lagniappe is a term used primarily in Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast meaning “a little something extra.” It comes from the Spanish phrase "la ñapa", which itself derives from the Quechua word yapa, meaning “something added.” The Quechua are an indigenous people of the Andes mountains, descended from the Inca Empire. When Spanish traders and settlers arrived in Louisiana during the 18th century, they brought the phrase la ñapa with them. In New Orleans, the French-speaking population absorbed la ñapa into their own dialect, blending it with French pronunciation and spelling to create “lagniappe.”
Today, lagniappe refers to a small bonus or gift given to a customer by a merchant, or any unexpected kindness or extra touch added as a gesture of goodwill. A New Orleans culinary inspiration still remains in some of our company’s products, but more importantly, all of our fine seafood offerings are made with care and thoughtfully sourced ingredients, by a dedicated team, in an effort to deliver that little extra value to our customers.
